A BIG Update

Image
Hi all!! So for the last, like, forever, my computer has actually been a laptop plugged into a monitor, with a keyboard and mouse attached too. So I never used my laptop physically. I thought this was great because I still had a laptop when I needed it, but actually it turned into more of a problem than anything. First, although it was quite high-power in terms of laptop, it actually was incapable of running even quite old video games - including, for example, Portal 2. I also couldn't plug Dawn into it directly (it only had two USB C ports, and no other ports, and one of these was used for charging/power). The MicroSD card slot was difficult to get to. If I wanted to plug my Arduino in, I had to unplug the laptop from charge (because the other port was used for the monitor). It was all getting to be a bit of a nightmare. So I decided it had to go. If you've never heard of CEX, they are a high street store that buys and sells used tech. Computers, video games, controllers, etc....

Eye See You!

The eye works! I printed all the new components which I redesigned and glued it together. I mounted the servo to the back and did some brief programming to get it moving, and it WORKS!! Check out the video below: A video of the aperture rotating by itself! I'm so impressed, this honestly blew me away and I just started laughing. I am genuinely shocked that I got it working so well. I was fully prepared to abandon this part of the project and make the eye static, but nope it works perfectly.  The bad news is, the eyelids are quite complex. I have only just designed the eyelids, very much as an afterthought. Have a look below: Highlighted in yellow is the lower eyelid and the support arm I've really struggled with this because the eyelids and the servos and support arms all have to rotate side-to-side with the rest of the faceplate. And I tried several different designs, and they all  collided with the centre bar (shown in the foreground in the above photo) when rotating. ...

Hello World!

Image
Hi all! AmazingOomoo here. I don't know how successful this blog will be. It's my first time doing a blog because my life is not usually interesting enough to read about. But if you are here from Reddit, hooray!! The Background So I love a good project. And often my ideas for project come to me all of a sudden and then I just have to do it. I'm very impulsive. Much like starting this blog, the idea just came to me whilst I was on the toilet. When I am concentrating at work, I tend to put music on, but I find music with words very distracting as I end up focusing on that instead of reading or writing which is what I am supposed to be doing. So I put video game music on. Uncharted, Tomb Raider, and my favourite at the moment - the Aperture Science Psychoacoustic Laboratories album, from Portal 2. Listening to it really got me in the mood to play Portal 2 again, and on my 2nd playthrough I thought "I wanna make Wheatley." I just suddenly had to have one. I have a lo...
